"We can succeed only by concert. It is not, 'Can any of us imagine better?' but, 'Can we all do better?'"
(Abraham Lincoln)

Pacifica in the Siskiyous

Christmas programs including everything from fiddles to classical guitar, church choirs to junior high band, and folk songs to story-tellers have celebrated the season and the community.

Some History

The "Mid-Applegate" is an area of several hundred square miles in SW Oregon encompassing several rural unincorporated communities and 10-15,000 people. Once dependent on resource extraction (logging and mining), the mid-Applegate region is now hard-pressed economically (over 50% of children at local schools qualify for federally-subsidized lunches). Pacifica will encourage, instead, methods of sustainable development and green economies.

The Vision

Community Coalescence: Pacifica hopes to bring people and communities of the mid-Applegate area closer together by hosting a variety of activities and by providing a place for gatherings, classes, and meetings. Though there is currently no large community gathering place, Pacifica's property includes a 9,000 square foot oak and cedar lined building that could/will make an ideal community center. This facility is available to rent. For more information call Craig at 541-846-1100.

Cooperative Food-Processing Kitchen: A shared-use kitchen that supports the research, production and cooperative marketing of local value-added agricultural products will encourage the redevelopment of the Applegate Valley's economy by providing a way to utilize small quantities of agricultural products and allowing small farmers to stay on the land.

Arts Center: In addition to the Applied Arts building mentioned in conjunction with the Arts Guild which will encourage and improve the economic standing of local artists, Pacifica is lucky to have within its main building a professional recording studio (currently minus equipment). Our goal is to make this facility available (on a self-sustaining basis) to encourage local musicians as well as the teaching of music in an area where schools cannot afford such programs.

The Advisory Board

Local citizens including representatives from other local groups. For more information call Craig at 541-846-1100.
